１_ 漆塗り
1_ Lacquering

素地の表面に接着剤を塗ります。
塗り残しのないように、刷毛を使い分け溝や際までムラなく接着剤を塗ります。

Apply glue to the bare surface.
Spread the glue to the grooves and edges by using different brushes, not causing any holidays or uneven coatings.

2_ 漆拭き
2_ Wiping

目の細かい布を使い、漆を拭き取ります。拭きすぎると金箔が付着せず、拭き足りないと仕上げの際に金が曇った印象になってしまうため、経験を頼りに適切な力でムラなく拭き取ります。

Wipe off the lacquer using fine fabrics. The gold leaf does not completely stick to the surface if wiped too much, and its final surface appears dull if wiped insufficiently. The point is to wipe off the surface with proper power relying on the experience.

3_ 箔押し
3_ Gilding

空気が入らないように箔を押していきます。時間がかかりすぎると接着塗料が乾き箔が付かなくなるため、限られた時間で溝や際まで素早く丁寧に貼っていきます。

Press the gold leaf not letting air to get inside. It is important to press the gold leaf to the grooves and edges very quickly not to make lacquer dry out, and gold leaf completely stick to the surface.

4_ シワ取り
4_ Removing Creases

真綿を使い、箔が重なり合った部分を払い落とし、箔の気泡によるシワを綺麗に伸ばします。繊細な箔に傷が付かないよう細心の注意を払います。

Brush off the overlapping parts of gold leaf, and smooth out the creases made by air bubbles using cottons. Careful attention should be paid on this stage not to make any scratches or nicks on the gold leaf.
